About Our Training Courses

All our courses are tailored to the specific subject area and are all linked, if you have never used your camera in Manual Mode before and have not been on one of our basic courses I would suggest you get yourself on one of the basic courses first and then move onto the studio and landscape courses.

Camera Basics -

Course Objective:
By the end of this course you will understand basic camera functions such as ISO, Aperture and Shutterspeed to be able to forget Auto Mode and gain full creative control of your camera in Manual Mode. With this understanding you will be able to go away confident in knowing how to change a setting to get a desired result.

Overview:
This is a basic course where we introduce you to the DSLR Camera. We will look over the different functions of your camera and explain what each one does. You will do a few experiments to see how changing things such as the aperture affects Depth of Field (how blurry an image is) and the Shutter Speed affects motion blur. The day will end with a debrief and a feedback session.

For this course it is recommended you bring with you a DSLR, Lenses, Tripod, Laptop with Photoshop, warm clothing and your Camera Manual. If you do not have all of these items do not worry as they are not compulsary except for a camera, compact cameras and fixed lens cameras are ok but you may be restricted slightly.

This is a full day course (6 hours with a break for lunch of 1 hour) and is only £199.00

Introduction to Landscape Photography -

Course Objective:
By the end of this course you will have a better understanding of shooting landscapes and what settings to use for which situations. We will cover how to successfully shoot HDR images.

Overview:
This is a basic introduction to landscape photography. On this day we will visit a location and practice the skills we learnt on our basic training day. If the location permits we will shoot day and night shots this will include how to shoot HDR. The course will end with a debrief and a feedback session.

This is a 6 hour course including a 1 hour lunch, we are offering for only £299.00

Introduction to Studio Photography -

Course Objective:
By the end of this course you will understand how to successfully set-up studio lighting to photograph high-key and low-key shots. This will include work with objects and work with models.

Overview:
This is a basic introduction to studio photography. You will start the day by learning about the different equipment in the studio and how to use it properly. In the morning you will practice on lighting objects, this will follow with some basic tuition on how to direct a model into a pose as after lunch you will be photographing a model. We will then spend an hour after looking at post processing in Photoshop, hints and tips will be given on what to look out for. The day will end with a debrief and a feedback session.

This is a full day course (6 hours with a break for lunch of 1 hour) and is very intensive we are offering this course for only £249.00 (minimum 3 people, maximum 5 people per course)

Digital Retouching -

We do not offer Digital Retouching as a full course as usually people only need help with a few things, we have found a full day retouching can be very intensive and is better learnt an hour or two at a time. We use Photoshop CS5 and Photomatix Pro. If you need help with a specific image or would like to learn how to do something new we can help you with this for only £45.00 per hour.

Student Aftercare -

As a qualified photographic judge for the South London Federation and the Kent County Photographic Association Darren enjoys giving feedback to students about their images and how they can improve them.

Students often ask for constructive feedback on their work and wish to have a way to communicate and share their work, whether for criticism or just to show off the new techniques they have learnt. Thanks so much for having us last week. It really cemented my knowledge of how to work a DSLR and your hints and tips were really valuable to hear, thanks!

I think the things that I found really useful from the day were
- the interest you had in us as people
- the way you taught through eliciting (asking questions)
- the way you explained difficult concepts in an easy to understand way.

Great course learnt a great deal, especially the DOF examples and the use of the Exposure Triangle, didn't quite get the TV mode examples but the painting with light at the end was excellent with the torch and flashgun.

Would recommend the course to anyone starting out. Unfortunately having used the camera for about a year you tend to pick up bad habits it is like playing golf for a year and then having lessons, it is hard to break those bad habits [practices] but this course will certainly make me think before taking another picture regardless of which style, i.e portrait, landscape etc.
